I started my dance training in tap and acro at five years old, and really only started because my best friend was in it. Of course I realized I loved it. I soon added in jazz, modern, and musical theatre to my training, while at Joanne’s School of Dance. I eventually moved to Val Easton’s Studio, and then Darcelle’s, before ending up at Body Electric with Lisa Stevens. Spotlight (Dance Studio) was my last studio. Jace Wace (Owner) gave me my core training. That’s where I met Joanne Pesusich, who taught me my first formal hip hop class. I wore a bodysuit, pink tights, and biker shorts….with runners. I thought she was the coolest person ever, and asked her where she taught. That’s how I discovered Harbour Dance Centre! I started training there every day. IDM: How did you break in to the professional industry? Kim: Hip Hop was new on the scene, which made it easy to get work. There were no auditions, you just got a phone call. Jocelyn Peden (PRP Inc.) hired me a lot. I also met Bradley Rapier (Groovaloos) at Harbour (Dance Centre), who took me under his wing. I learned about a convention he was helping run in Calgary called Hard Lino, to which Mr. Wiggles, B-Boy Wicket, and Flo Master all came to. It was the first ever street dance convention of it’s kind. I attended and won a scholarship to Tremaine’s Dance Studio in LA, so that was my next stop! IDM: How did you like LA? Kim: Incredible.
